Sindh HEC Hosts Prestigious Iftar-Dinner for Vice Chancellors & Stakeholders

KARACHI: The Sindh Higher Education Commission (Sindh HEC) organized a grand Iftar-dinner on Friday at the Movenpick Hotel.
This exclusive event was held in honour of the respected vice chancellors representing both public and private universities across the province, marking a momentous occasion in fostering collaboration and camaraderie within the academic community.
The Sindh HEC Iftar-dinner garnered significant attention and attendance, boasting the presence of distinguished guests including representatives from the consulates of the United States, Turkey, Malaysia, Iran, and various heads of respective fields.
Notable figures from the U.S Consulate included Anamaria Karrels, Public Diplomacy Officer; Lee McManis, Public Affairs Officer; and Belal Rizvi, Program Management Coordinator (Exchanges).
Turkish Consulate General, Cemal Sangu also graced the occasion. Representing the Iranian Consulate was Mahmood Shaikh, Director of Iranian School, while the Malaysian Consulate was represented by Vice Consul Mrs. Nor Azua Sulaili who was accompanied by her spouse.
The vice chancellors attending the event included Professor Saeed Qureshi (Dow University of Health Sciences), Professor Nusrat Shah (SMBB Medical University, Larkana), Professor Parveen Munshi (University of Sufism and Modern Sciences, Bhitshah), Pirzada Qasim (Ziauddin University) and Dr Huma Baqai, Rector Millennium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship.

In recognizing the importance of the gathering, Professor Dr S.M. Tariq Rafi, Chairperson of Sindh HEC, underscored its role as a catalyst for closer ties between the heads of public and private universities. ‘Through this iftar dinner, a platform is established for the exchange of ideas, fostering a robust camaraderie, and forging enduring connections within an atmosphere of congeniality and mutual respect,’ he said.

Martin Dawson, the British Deputy High Commissioner, lauded the Sindh HEC’s efforts to organise the event and emphasised it will help in connecting the acedemicians.

“I am thankful to Sindh HEC for organizing this wonderful event because it surely helps built bridges among people and the higher learning institutions besides signifying the spirit of this holy month of Ramazan,” said  “To be amongst so many learned people here under one roof is a great feeling really.”

Also present were Javed Memon, Director of HEC Regional Office Karachi, and Dr. Naveed Yousuf, Interim CEO of the Agha Khan University Examination Board, Karachi.
