In 2020, Sindh HEC introduced the Sindh Research Support Program (SRSP) as a significant initiative to grant research funds for ground-breaking projects, that could have far reaching impact on the local industries as well as on the society as a whole.
With a budget of Rs 100 million in the financial year 2022-2023, the SRSP aims to promote scientific excellence and knowledge expansion by allowing the researchers to explore their own concepts and methods.
The program has been designed to foster and support research in areas that profoundly affect the lives of ordinary individuals. Seven thematic areas have been identified in this regard, including Applied & Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Engineering & Technology, IT & Computer Science, Agriculture, and Medical Sciences.
Upon advertising the SRSP program in leading newspapers of the province, the Sindh HEC received approximately 350 applications. Subsequently, a committee comprising experts from across the province was constituted to scrutinise and evaluate the research proposals. A sub-committee was also established to ensure a thorough examination of the received projects. Ultimately, 42 research projects were approved for funding.
The researchers involved in the approved projects have since received funding in installments from various public sector universities in Sindh and they are actively engaged in conducting their research, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the betterment of society.
The SRSP initiative is a manifestation of Sindh HEC’s commitment to promote scientific excellence, knowledge enhancement and meaningful application of research in Sindh. By supporting the researchers in their pursuit of innovative projects, the program has paved the way for progress and positive change in various fields.
