SINDH HEC ORGANISES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR DEANS AT NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT (NIM) KARACHI
KARACHI:
The Sindh Higher Education Commission successfully organised a three-day “Professional Development Programme for Future Leaders (Deans)” at public sector universities in Sindh. The event took place at the National Institute of Management (NIM) in Karachi from May 23rd to May 25th, 2024. The programme served as the initial stage of an undertaking aimed at equipping 30 participating deans with essential administrative, financial, and strategic planning skills.
The training programme was designed to enhance the deans’ skills in strategic planning, decision-making, and resource management, with the recognition that they may potentially become Vice Chancellors in the future. The comprehensive three-day programme features presentations by seasoned experts on various crucial topics, such as Leadership Team Building, Public Procurement Procedures, PPRA and SPPRA Rules, the ORIC and Research Ecosystem, and Managing the Audit Paras.
During the last day, Prof. Dr. S.M. Tariq Rafi, Chairperson of Sindh Higher Education Commission, emphasised the need of administrative and financial skills for academic leaders. He expressed that academicians often lack the necessary administrative and financial skills to enhance an institution’s success and reputation, despite their proficiency in teaching and research. This training programme is a significant measure in bridging that gap.
Prof. Dr. Tariq Rafi praised the deans for successfully finishing the programme and urged them to apply their newly acquired talents at their own universities and train others. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to all attendees, indicating their dedication to guiding their colleges towards excellence.
