Workshop on Assurance of Learning
A one-day workshop titled “Assurance of Learning (AOL) for Higher Education Institutions” was successfully held today at the Video Conference Hall of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi. The event brought together more than 50 academic leaders, QEC Professionals, senior faculty members, and program directors, from various institutions across Sindh.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Kanza Sohail, Dr. Sana Tauseef —faculty members at the School of Business Studies, IBA Karachi—who are also core members of the AACSB Review and Execution Committee. These trainers are leading the implementation of the Assurance of Learning process at IBA as part of the institution’s efforts toward international AACSB accreditation.
The primary goal of the workshop was to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to implement the AOL process within their own institutions. The sessions covered key areas such as defining program-level competencies and learning outcomes, designing effective assessment tools and rubrics, mapping curriculum, and analyzing student performance data to drive program improvements.
Using a blend of interactive lectures, group activities, case examples, and peer discussions, the workshop emphasized hands-on learning. Creative materials such as sticky notes, flip charts, markers, were used to enhance participant engagement and experiential understanding of key concepts. This was a jam-packed session where all participants learned a great deal, and the level of excitement throughout the day remained exceptionally high.
At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates were distributed among the participants. Attendees appreciated the practical orientation of the sessions and expressed interest in similar future training initiatives to further strengthen academic quality assurance practices.
