In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Tariq Rafi, Chairman Sindh HEC, highlighted the importance of the THE Impact Ranking in fostering positive change through education and research. He emphasized that the ranking encourages universities to direct their efforts towards research and practices that benefit the community, environment and the world.
Dr. Muhammad Abdul Wahid Usmani, Director of QEC at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), said while speaking on the occasion, “Out of the 72 Pakistani universities who got a spot in Impact Ranking in 2023, there were only 16 universities from the province of Sindh. Through this workshop, we are expecting a large number of universities in the province of Sindh to be ranked in 2024 Impact ranking.” He apprised the concerned officials of the universities/DAIs about the process of providing accurate and pertinent information for THE Impact Rankings. He further highlighted that the ranking aligns universities’ efforts with global objectives such as quality education, gender equality, clean water, sustainable cities, climate action, etc.
Ms. Asfiya Aziz, Additional Director Communication at JSMU asked the representatives of the universities to align their communication plans to relevant SDGs for the next year. “Effective communication is essential to showcase your achievements and successes,” she said. “If you don’t tell your story, others may misinterpret or ignore it. Communication ensures that your message is heard and understood,” she said.
More than hundred Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) officials attended the workshops, held at Karachi University’s International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), from public and private sector universities in Sindh.
